Description: Insurers are increasingly using advanced analytics to model expected outcomes. Two well-known examples in the life insurance industry are models for predicting policyholder behavior and to manage risk selection. The presenters will explore the various types of advanced analytics being considered in models and how the associated risks of these models can be incorporated into an enterprise's risk framework.

Description: Employers, health plans, stop-loss insurers and reinsurers are all affected by the high cost of treating cancer. In recent years, cutting-edge pharmaceuticals, bone marrow transplants and CAR-T cell therapies have driven very high cost trends for cancer, with more emerging therapies on the horizon. In this session, we will review these new treatments, showcase models that aid in understanding the range of likely financial effects of the current, expanded, and likely-to-be approved indications for cell therapies that will treat certain patients affected by lymphoma, leukemia, and multiple myeloma. This session will explain important considerations for modeling Medicare, Medicaid versus commercial populations, key risk concerns caused by the size of enrollee pools, and important differences between the various therapies that affect modeling. We will also discuss averted cost, health outcomes, pricing levels, and risks caused by provider billing practices.

Description: Actuarial Process Optimization (APO) is a technology-focused methodology for bringing together actuarial and technology teams to critically examine and optimize actuarial processes, specifically targeting processes that are most time consuming and have the highest risk of failure. From claims analytics to valuation and experience analysis, modern technology can help actuaries optimize their time and focus their attention on higher value tasks. In this session, we will explore opportunities for APO in the Health insurance industry and demonstrate how technology can be used to improve the actuarial process using an agile and targeted approach.
